Mark Johannes has over 35 years of land surveying experience and is licensed in four states and is also a Certified Federal Land Surveyor. Originally from Minnesota, Mark moved to Colorado Springs with his wife and children in 1996 and obtained his Colorado Professional Land Surveyor license in 1998. In 2012 he started his own land surveying company.
Mr. Johannes has served on the board of the Southern Colorado Professional Land Surveyors as Director, Vice-President, President and Secretary since 2006.

Licensed in Colorado, Kansas & Texas Steven Parker has more than 30+ years of land surveying experience, domestically and abroad. Steve proudly served eight years in the U.S. Army with both the 82nd Airborne Division and the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in geology from Fort Lewis College as well as a graduate certificate for geographic information systems from the University of Denver. He is also an ASFPM Certified Floodplain Manager, and a BLM Certified Federal Surveyor. Steve has served on the Southern Chapter Board of Directors for the Professional Land Surveyors of Colorado since 2006, and he was elected to serve as the PLSC President from 2019-2021, and he is the current editor of Side Shots, the state's association periodical. Steve serves proudly as a right-of-way surveyor for the Colorado Department of Transportation Region II in Pueblo.
Raised by a surveyor/engineer in up-state New York, Eric White, PLS, Professional Land Surveyor at Compass Surveying & Mapping. His education is from State University of New York College of Environmental Sciences and Forestry. Eric has an extensive background not only in surveying but in photogrammetry, GIS & mapping.
Joseph Alessi, A Colorado native has over 30 years experience in Land Surveying. Mr. Alessi holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Colorado State University Ft. Collins. Founder of Alessi and Associates, Inc. Appraisers - Engineers - Surveyors, since 1974.  Mr. Alessi is a purveyor of technical real estate services along the Colorado Front Range. He has a very unique combined knowledge of Land Surveying, Residential Appraisals and Real Estate Brokerage. Mr. Alessi has been instrumental in the preservation of historic maps and documents. He has assisted with The Sawyer and Garsten Collection and continued effort to locate historic maps and documents preserved for present and future generations. Along with the enjoyment of the Colorado lifestyle, Mr. Alessi is privileged to follow the example of the founders of the U.S. Constitution in the American Freedom of Land Ownership. 
Mr. Alessi has served on the Board of the Southern Chapter of Professional Land Surveyors of Colorado as Director, Vice President, and President since 2006.

Daniel Hanten, a Colorado native, began his career in Surveying 47 years ago focusing on serving the people of the State of Colorado as a licensed Professional Land Surveyor in 1973 and soon after started Hanten Surveying, Inc. in Pueblo, Colorado. Hanten Surveying continues to this day. In 2003 he was offered and accepted the position in Pueblo County as Chief of Surveys Public Works. Since 1979 Daniel has been an active member of PLSC since 1979 and has held the positions of Director and Treasurer.
Licensed in Colorado, Don has over 30 years of Land Surveying experience. Don started his Surveying Career in 1993 with Martin & Whitacre in Muscatine, Iowa on large scale highway projects and boundary surveys. Don has worked for various surveying firms in Colorado and has gained knowledge in all aspects of surveying from Drafting to Unmanned Aerial Systems. Don is currently employed with Compass Surveying & Mapping, LLC in Colorado Springs as Survey Manager. Don has served on the Southern Chapter Board of Directors for the PLS of Colorado as Director, Secretary, Vice President, & President since 2012.

Stephen Rutzen Obtained his Colorado PLS License in 2008, and North Dakota in 2009.  He’s obtained over 37 years of surveying experience. Steve's Surveying career began in 1976 after joining the Army. 3 years were spent in Germany learning the surveying trade from 1976 to 1979. Later he was transferred to FT Carson, CO and spent 3 more years there. Steve began private surveying experience working for McClanahan Surveying from 1982 until 1989 where he acquired Crew Chief status. Steve spent 17 years with JR Engineering as Crew Chief and Office Surveyor in support of survey staff and engineering departments. Steve moved to North Dakota in 2008 and become Survey Crew Chief for KLJ Engineering.  Steve was a member of the NDSPLS board as Awards Chairman from 2009 to 2014. Steve moved back to CO in 2015 and is currently working for JF Sato and Associates in Littleton, CO. Steve is the Father of 4 grown, native CO children and grandfather to 7 grandchildren, 6 of whom live in Colorado Springs.
John Tessin, PLS, CFedS, is a Professional Land Surveyor at Edward James in Colorado Springs. He has been serving the public as a licensed professional for 20+ years. Always with careful consideration, he is the consummate professional, and he is a tremendous resource to our board of directors.
